A Tribute to Brother Jon

A long time ago, in my single days in Tallahassee, I found a treasure that was on the side of the road, clearly labeled "trash." I knew this little piece of furniture had more potential, so I stopped, loaded it into my car and have been carrying it around with me ever since. The truth is that it was in DESPERATE need of some TLC, needing to be sanded, reshaped and stained. The seat cushion alone had been through the trends of the70's with an avocado green cover, followed by a putrid orange, which was badly stained no doubt due to the rain and other abuses. Because of the nature of my lucrative lifestyle with CCC and then marrying Chris and moving back and forth, it seemed I never had the time or money to give this potentially lovely gossip bench the update it needed....until we moved into our new house! This was my chance. In addition, we had an heirloom piece from Chris' side that needed refinishing.
Most of you know that my youngest brother, Jon, is a master craftsman---building custom cabinets, desks, armoires, anything and everything wooden. He is so busy though, that I was unsure if he would take on a family project. Not only did he promise me to take care of both pieces, but he gave countless hours to basically rebuilding the gossip bench for us, needing to replace most of the wood and rebuild the seat back. When he delivered both pieces, I was shocked and surprised to see the finished product! In his rebuilding, he had personalized the piece for us (see the pic below), and the black lacquer used for the side table both updated the piece and serves to show off the intricacies of the wood.
Thanks for all your hard work, Jon. We could not have asked for a better job!
