Showered by Students

One week ago my fifth period class threw me a surprise baby shower. First you have to understand that this class has been a thorn in my side for almost the duration of the school year. The class started with 32 students and by the grace and mercy of God, it has shrunk to 29. Consider 29 11th grade teenagers, right after lunch, in a confined space, smelly from having eaten outside, and high on sugar!! This is my classroom from 1:30-2:30pm. I have been more mean and sarcastic than I ever thought possible in this class, yet somehow I love these 29 kids who don't understand what it means to "sit down and close your mouths." On Friday, May 1 I walked into class a few minutes late, only to find a room fully decorated with "It's a BOY" paraphrenalia and "Congrats!" and blue balloons, and a cake that read "Congratulations Mrs. Phil! We love you!" They had been planning this event for over a month! Not only did we eat cake, but they had an agenda: blindfold the teacher, feed her 6 selections of baby food, and make her guess what she's eating. :) I did well--scoring 4/6. On top of that, they had collected money and purchased gifts for me and Brayden. Additionally, some girls got together to make me a t-shirt that read "Y'all are SO LOUD!", which is what I must say about every 5 minutes when they have independent work to be working on. What a fun memory!! Thanks, 5th period!

How sweet! That brings tears to my eyes. I know you were touched with their thoughtfulness and generosity - not to mention creativity!
