Rain, Rain, Go Away

Chris and I joke that everytime it rains, you must leave work early because the traffic will inevitably be 10x worse, people freak out, wrecks occur, and you still get home 2 hours later than planned. Literally, for the past 7 or 8 days, it has rained here in ATL. The storms have been so bad that we've been under flash flood warnings for a couple of days, but yesterday (Monday) was by far the worst! As I sat in my classroom, I could hear the shatter of thunder and downpour of rain and wondered how I would get sweet Brayden into the car--envisioning trying to open the door, while holding both the carseat and umbrella with the other hand. Thankfully, Chris volunteered to pick him up, as he foresaw the need to...leave work early! Oh yes---over 100 roads were closed due to flooding in Cobb county alone, which is where he works, and yes, by the time he got home with B, he'd been on road for a little over 2 hours! In the meantime, schools had lost power, other counties had been released early for the day, and alternate traffic routes were being suggested over the radio airwaves. The state of Georgia has been in a drought for the past 3 or 4 years. Lake Lanier, which was still down by 9 feet in March of this year, has risen 3 feet in the past 5 days!!! While we are thankful for the rain, 7 deaths have been confirmed, as creeks and rivers have risen to record highs. Pray for those families who are suffering the loss of a loved one. Here is a video of a woman who died driving home from work. A valley in her road became a river and her van was swept away. She never made it home.
