It is hard to believe that little Brayden is almost 3 months old! It is also hard to believe that we are closing out our 3rd full week of school. WOW! Time has flown by. What a joy it is to watch him grow and develop. Just last night I took the newborn insert out of his carseat and adjusted the head pad and shoulder straps. We kept thinking he was outgrowing his seat, but I wanted to check the weight requirement before making any adjustments. Sure enough, when I looked in the user guide for his carseat, there was a caution sign (!) on the information page that read "newborn insert for children between 4 and 11 pounds." Brayden now weighs 13 lbs 10 oz!!! (I know this because he has his first cold and I had to take him to the doctor last Saturday!!) Yes, it was time to remove the insert. When Chris placed him in his seat this morning, he seemed much happier as he had more room to wiggle and squirm.
He is still eating five oz. every four hours, with his last feeding at 9:30pm, and waking at 4am for a diaper change. The past several nights though I have refused to get up because I have been so awfully tired, and he has been waking at odd times, ready to play. Between sucking his fingers and my prayers, he has settled himself and gone back to sleep. The nights I have chosen to check on him are hillarious: he is bright-eyed, babbling, and kicking his legs like it's time to get up at 2, 3 and 4 in the morning. I told him he was "terribly cute, but PLEASE go back to sleep!" :)
My favorite thing lately is that when we get home around 4:30 in the afternoon, we take a nap together from 5-6. It is the sweetest time we share and I feel like we reconnect after being apart all day. Motherhood has changed me in so many ways...I can't imagine my life without sweet Brayden. We celebrate his growth and development and yet at the same time, it's somewhat sad that he is growing so quickly. The adjustment to being a new mommy and having a newborn was such a major transition for me that I kept waiting for it to be easier and now that it is easier, I almost miss how small he was. I am grateful to Jesus for His all-sufficient grace during that time of transition for providing me with friends and family to love me and coach me through the hard moments when I was filled with nothing but sleeplessness, questions and anxiety. Brayden is now smiling most of the time and even laughing on occasion. He loves to babble and suck his fingers/thumb, and he is reaching/grabbing for objects. The other day Chris was changing his diaper and with a smile, pulled Chris' glasses off of his face. We love you Brayden and thank Jesus for the joy and delight you bring to our lives!! You are helping me learn to "not sweat the small stuff."
