Turtles and the Promised Land

In the early weeks of Brayden's life (and my moments of sheer exhaustion) a good friend of mine encouraged me to keep going, to nap when he napped, to continue to strive for the schedule I'd established because eventually it would pay off: Brayden would begin sleeping through the night and we would enter the "promised land!" Well, we did!!! At 7 weeks, Brayden slept through the night (Hallelujah Chorus playing in the background) and I was afraid he'd been crying for me and I didn't wake up to hear him. Nope. He slept...the whole night. And then we left for P'cola and he slept through the night all week in P'cola. And when we returned home, he continued sleeping through the night. He has even refused his 10pm feeding a few times and slept through the night, going twelve hours between feedings! Can we say CHAMP?! We ARE IN THE PROMISED LAND and it is awesome! I usually get up around 4 or 5, if at all, to change his diaper, but then he wakes like clockwork at 6 for his first feeding of the day and is ready to go back down for his nap by 7:30.

The morning is definitely my favorite time of day with him. When I go in to get him he is bright-eyed and smiling, and full of life. His face is fresh and well-rested and you can tell he's ready to eat and play. A mobile hangs above his crib with animals on it (giraffe, monkey, elephant, and turtle) and he is usually "talking" to the animals when I go in to get him in the morning. I love to hear these sounds. He also has a mobile that hangs over his pack-n-play with only turtles on it and from day one, has been in awe of these little guys. Lately, for whatever reason, he has not spent much time in the pnp (maybe bc he was in it so much in pcola). This morning after he ate, he was propped up on my side looking around (he LOVES to look around)---at the windows, the fan, the curtains. When his eyes met the turtles a big grin came over his face and he began "talking". It was the sweetest thing. I imagined he was saying "Hey guys! What's going on? I've missed you." So I put him in the pnp for awhile and all you could see were the turtles shaking back and forth as Brayden, below, kicked and cooed, watching them all the while. What a guy!
PS: You can't read his t-shirt, but it says "Party in my crib 2 a.m." Not any more!!
